Charity visit to Happy Retirement Home by FatnRich

What is the best choice of activities to carry out on a beautiful and wonderful morning? Going for a hike, exercising, travelling or to organise a meaningful charitable activity?

On 17 July 2011, FatnRich’s members decided to devote the day to visit a charitable Organisation of the less fortunate .Imbue with compassion and team spirits, the members loaded the daily necessities like rice oats, biscuits, shampoo etc. onto their vehicles and prepare for the journey. All the groceries are purchased through fund donated by the benevolent and generous members of FatnRich.                         Untitled28 Charities

The place we visited is called Happy Retirement Home. Madam Khor Kwee Gaik who runs the Organisation, was at hand to welcome us. She projected an image of a simple, kind and compassionate person; fill with lots of loving kindness. Upon arrival, we unloaded the donated groceries and were requested by Madam Khor to place it in the allocated room. She then gave us a briefing on the running of the Happy Retirement Home. Her briefing on the folks staying there is so touching that it aroused our inner sympathies for them.

Madam Khor explained that although the place is not very big, but the environment and facilities is conducive and suitable for 49 elderly folks. At Happy Retirement Home, you can even find a couple who is nearly a hundred years old Madam Khor express sadness for the elderly folks who were sent by their children to stay here. The elderly folks always hope that when they get old, their children will remain filial with express love and take care of them just as when they were little. Unfortunately this is not the case as expected and instead their children has cited various reasons to persuade them to stay at the Home. These old folks are always fill with sadness and disappointments enclosed in their hearts. That is why when they are staying at the Home, efforts, care and attentions  are shower on them to make them feel happy and wanted and also to create a harmonious family atmosphere.

During the visit we noticed that most of the old folks are less agile, but can still perform some simple tasks to while away the time and simultaneously help the Home to earn some money to offset the maintenance cost. This indirectly also help them to exercise their muscles and mind to prevent Alzheimer’s disease. We also observed that some old folks are a bit introvert; as they may still fill with bitterness and disappointments in their hearts or  perhaps this is their way to attract attention to care for them or conversely it may be a case that they do not know how to express themselves. It may also be a case of shock social harmonisation!

From this charity trip, it awakens us that we should not be selfish to take care only of our own self but also to remain filial and honour our parents when they are old. We should not be just engrossed with our works, while neglecting them. We should treat them well, so that in future when they are gone, we won’t feel remorseful for what should be done had left undone! .

Finally, grateful thanks to FatnRich members who in spite of their busy tight schedule and other attractive delights outside sacrifice their invaluable time and energy to join us in this cause worthy charitable trip to make it a success. May all of you be blessed with good luck, fortune and health always!
